School Games Live Christmas Special

by | Dec 15, 2022 | News

On Thursday 15th December we hosted our second county-wide School Games event of the school year. School Games Live was back!  The live session was a concept developed in October, which married getting everyone active with the need to still carry out events virtually – allowing us to reach even more young people! Following the lead, yet again, of the amazing Leanne Murray-Kemp (Owner of LK Health and Wellbeing), school children from across the region donned their active kit, put on their Christmas jumpers and moved around in their classrooms and school halls. The event was a huge success again!

Bigger and Better!

We trialled a School Games Live event in October this year and the participation figures blew us away. To say it was a success is an understatement, with this in mind we got to work to ensure the next one we did was even bigger and better than the last. The news spread far and wide with participants registering in their thousands. Santa hats were ordered and a Christmas playlist was mixed ready for the big event!

The Live Event

Other than the many screens full of energetic school children, there were many successes that came from the live event. 7,014 children had taken part by the time Leanne drew a close to her third 15-minute session. with every school involved in the event expressing an interest to join another School Games live event.

The focus this year from a short survey during the live session was a ‘word of the day’ theme. Schools were asked to pick a word that best describes the School Games Live event, with the most popular word being ‘Energetic’. Many schools from across the region beamed in with the Wear Valley area having the most participants.

Future Events

We are sure to be back again with yet a bother School Games Live event, keep your eyes peeled for an Easter special!

There are still many county-wide School Games events to take place this academic year, all to be led by our amazing group of School Games Organisers. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on these events in your area and from your school.
