YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

Are you the mental health lead or responsible for wellbeing in your school or educational setting? Do you need support to boost wellbeing for children, young people and staff?

We have an exciting opportunity to support you around developing mental health and emotional wellbeing. The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training is an accredited qualification and a great opportunity to increase your knowledge and awareness of a range of mental health issues related to children and young people.

YOGA MIKE

A range of yoga and mindfulness videos which are specifically designed to be engaging and interative for children.

GO FAR IN A JAR

This will help you reach the recommendation of 60 minutes daily whether you are currently learning at home or at school. You will also be able to take part in a wellness activity to help support your mental health too.

TALKING CHANGES

A service for anyone aged 16 or over living in County Durham who requires help dealing with common mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, PTSD, panic and phobias. Talking changes provides the following services:

  • Psychological therapy
  • Self-help
  • Counselling
  • Talking therapy

THE MIX

A free and confidential service for young people aged 13 to 25 to support them with embarrassing problems, weird questions, and please-don’t-make-me-say-it-out-loud thoughts. The Mix allows young people to choose how they want to access support and has multiple services including:

  • Articles and Discussion boards
  • Video content
  • Phone – Crisis messenger
  • Email
  • Peer to peer – 1-2-1 chat
  • Counselling services

The Mix provides sources of local services for mental health, just put in the topic you need help with and your postcode.

MIND DARLINGTON

Mind is a charity that covers Darlington, South Durham, Hambleton and Richmondshire offering a wide range of recovery support services to 11 to 18 year olds.

Mind Darlington provides many services including:

  • Emotional resilience classes – Creating resilience and Emotional Wellness (CREW)
  • Video and telephone calls – De-Caf Young People’s Café and Online Community Counselling line and Young people’s self-harm prevention counselling.

Relate is a counselling service with a network of centres and licensed local counsellors across the UK. Relate provides support services for young people and children through:

ASK HELPLINE

ASK Helpline is a free confidential text service for 14 – 25 year olds in County Durham. ASK Helpline has a comprehensive internal and external referral network to help young people get support by qualified youth worker.

EVERY MIND MATTERS

An online resource created by Public Health England hat gives simple and practical advice to get a healthier mind and get more out of life.

Every Mind Matters provides support with how to deal with stress and anxiety, boosting your mood or sleeping better developed by experts approved by the NHS.

Every Mind Matters provides videos for support on topics such as:

  • Self -care
  • Exercise
  • How to deal with unhelpful thoughts
  • Importance of sleep
  • Dealing with change

NHS MOOD ZONE

NHS Moodzone is an online resource that provides practical advice for young people and children who may be feeling anxious, depressed or just want to feel happier.

NHS Moodzone has interactive tools, videos and audio guides to support young people dealing with mental health issues. To work out where to go next NHS Moodzone has a mood assessment quiz to complete as well as a mental health helpline.

SANE

SANE is a leading UK mental health charity that offers support to people aged 16 and over affected by mental illness. SANE provides emotional support in the form of:

  • Mental health support forum
  • Mental health helpline
  • Support via text
  • Crisis support lines

SHOUT 85258

A free, confidential, 24/7 messaging support service run by trained volunteers to listen and support anyone who is struggling with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Abuse
  • Panic attacks
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Self-harm
  • Relationship problems
  • Bullying

Shout 85258 not only provides a messaging support service but also provides online resources such as videos on breathing exercises to help with anxiety and tips for mindfulness.
