ACTIVE FRIENDS:
HOW TO GET PEOPLE ACTIVE
A great way to get people active is by chatting about physical activity in everyday conversations. A useful framework for having these conversations is: Ask, Assist, Act.
KEY MESSAGE
As part of everyday conversations, encourage people to get active.
ASK ASSIST ACT
During everyday conversations, remember these three steps.
ASK
Introduce physical activity into conversation and take time to understand the person. How do they feel about physical activity? What types of activity do they enjoy, or used to enjoy?
ASSIST
Are they ready to change? Are they aware of the benefits? Discuss the benefits of physical activity to increase their motivation.
ACT
If they are ready to change, help them to set a goal and signpost them to activities or resources to help them achieve it.
