School Games Live 2022

by | Nov 10, 2022 | News

On Friday 21st October we hosted our first county-wide School Games event of the school year. School Games Live was a concept which married getting everyone active with the need to still carry out events virtually – allowing us to reach even more young people! Following the lead of the amazing Leanne Murray-Kemp (Owner of LK Health and Wellbeing), school children from across the region donned their active kit and moved around in their classrooms and school halls. The event was a huge success and has already sparked ideas of bigger and better things to come.

What is School Games?

The School Games is funded by Sport England and delivered by Active Partnerships, Youth Sport Trust and local School Games Organisers – who all work together to enable children across the country to be physically active.

School Games includes a series of festivals and events throughout the year where children have the opportunity to try new activities, participate in a wide variety of sports and be physically active in a safe and engaging environment.

The Live Event

Other than the many screens full of energetic school children, there were many successes that came from the live event. Over 2,300 children were taking part by the time Leanne drew a close to her third 15-minute session. with Every school involved in the event expressed an interest to join another School Games live event.

Findings from a short survey at the end of each session indicated a clear desire for more live events, with the majority of schools expressing an interest in being involved in a termly event. Many schools from across the region beamed in with Durham and Chester-le-Street having the most participants.

Future Events

Answering the calls for more sessions, we are currently working hard behind the scenes to ensure the next event we host is even bigger and better than this one. We are looking to organize a special festive event aiming to reach a wider audience, targeting those who potentially missed out this time. In the meantime, a 15-minute segment of the School Games Live event can be sent to you upon request.

There are still many county-wide School Games events to take place this academic year, all to be led by our amazing group of School Games Organisers. Keep your eyes peeled for updates on these events in your area and from your school.
